Tatreez is the name of traditional Palestinian embroidery which has often been used as a way of storytelling.
Continuing this tradition with modern means, this garment tells the story of two families’ repeated displacement in the context of the Palestinian diaspora.
I interviewed people of Palestinian descent who, having grown up in Syria because their grandparents had been forced to leave Palestine in the Nakba in 1948, then had to flee Syria during the Syrian civil war. I captured their thoughts on film and visualised what I was told by creating a garment inspired by the traditional Palestinian embroidery Tatreez.
